Tears that affect your autonomic nerves and make you relaxed

What are autonomic nerves

Autonomic nerves are nerves that adjust and support numerous functions of the body in order for it to move properly.

What autonomic nerves adjust

  • Body temperature
  • Blood pressure
  • Sweat
  • Breathing
  • Heart beat
  • Inner organs

Autonomic nerves consist of the sympathetic nerve system which functions while the body is alert and awake in the afternoon, and the parasympathetic nerve system, which functions when the body is relaxed in the evening.  The two systems do not function simultaneously, and switch among each other  according to the situation.

When the sympathetic nerve system mainly functions

  • When body temperature is high
  • When blood pressure is high
  • When you sweat a lot
  • When your heartbeat is fast
  • When your stomach is loose
  • When your intestines are not active

When the parasympathetic nerve system mainly functions

  • When body temperature is low
  • When blood pressure is low
  • When you are not sweating much
  • When your heartbeat is slow
  • When you stomach is small
  • When you intestines are active

If the switching of nerve systems is not properly done

  • You become sleepy during the afternoon
  • You can not relax during the evening
  • Your body temperature is still low in the afternoon
  • You sweat when your not hot
  • Your heart beat becomes faster when not exercising

Many problems due to autonomic imbalance occur.

Stress makes you not be able to relax

Sympathetic nerves enable the body to function properly by making the body temporarily tense, raising body temperature, blood pressure, and pulse rate.  Although this is necessary for the body, it creates stress at the same time.

Therefore, it is important for the body to switch to parasympathetic nerves and relax during the evening or when resting.

But when you are stressed out your autonomic nerves do not function properly, not changing to parasympathetic nerves as the right timing, thus not making you be able to relax.

Adding to that, not being able to relax sufficiently causes even more stress, creating a downward spiral.

Something that makes you relaxed instantly

Shedding tears helps make your autonomic nerves switch to parasympathetic nerves immediately.

When you shed tears, your brain changes instantly from a stressed state to a relaxed state, no matter what time it is.

But tears created by outer stimulations such as trash going into your eye or cutting onions will not make your nerves switch.

Tears created by emotions such as being moved, sadness, or feeling defeat allows your brain to switch nerves.

Stress is reduced by shedding tears.

Tears caused by feeling defeat or sadness

Tears that occur from inner emotions, when you couldn’t do something right, or when you had to sadly part with someone.

Tears caused by your feelings being moved

Tears that occur when you sympathize and are moved by something such as a movie, a touching story, or a sports game.

Good ways to shed tears that relieve stress

Since we usually do not cry so often in our everyday lives, the best way to shed tears and relieve stress as quickly as possible is to watch a movie that touches you, and shed tears by sympathizing to it.

It is said that even people who don’t usually cry from movies gradually become easier to shed tears as they watch more touching movies.

A good time to watch these movies would be during the evening, when your body is supposed to be in a relaxed state.

It is important not to just be moved, but to actually shed tears.

It is best if you shed tears for over five minutes.

Humans are most relaxed when they are asleep.  Shedding tears by being moved is said to relax your body the same as when you are sleeping.

By shedding tears by being moved, you will forget about your stress and become relaxed.

If you feel you are stressed up, try to relax by watching a touching movie and shedding tears.
